Academic Art Museum
The Academic Art Museum, the Collection of Classical Antiquities at the University of Bonn, is Bonn's oldest museum. Since its opening in 1819 its task has been to collect Greco-Roman art from the Mediterranean countries in casts and original. In North Rhine-Westphalia this collection is unsurpassed in its versatility and its systematics. It is one of the biggest collections of casts in Germany with plaster casts of 300 statues on display and 200 reliefs as well as 2000 original works of marble, terracotta and bronze allowing us to travel through the ancient world. Other pieces are stored in the magazines of the museum and will be brought to light for visitors time and again for special exhibitions.
